Q: Does tanning lotion help you tan faster?
Absolutely! Professional tanning lotions help your skin stay hydrated while you tan, which help the rays, penetrate your skin easier and in return you get your beautiful tan faster. If your skin is dry, then your skin acts like fish scales making the UV light bounce off your skin back into the tanning bed. Professional tanning lotions also have amazing ingredients in them to help you tan faster and make your tan last longer. At You Tan we have an assortment of lotions for everyone’s skin type, and we would love to help you find the perfect lotion for your needs!

Q: I heard tanning can improve vitamin D levels, is this true?
Vitamin D is one of the many benefits you can get while tanning. Tanning beds emit UVA and UVB rays, and humans need contact with UVB to absorb vitamin D. And with living in Vancouver, we all know we should get as much vitamin D as possible with this weather!

Q: Do I have to wear eye protection?
Yes! Your skin tans, but your eyes don’t! You have to make sure to always wear your eye protection at all times when tanning. Tanning without could result in damage to your eyes.

Q: What should I do to prep for an organic spray tan?

You want to make sure you have a clean “canvas” for your organic spray tan to hold onto. So you need to exfoliate your skin, this will help your spray tan last longer because its holding onto “new skin”. Also do all your grooming the night before (shaving, waxing, etc.) this will help your spray tan last longer. After your shower do not moisturize, this will act like a barrier to the spray tan solution. These steps will help you get your most even and non-streaky spray tan.

Q: How can I make my spray tan last longer?
Moisturize! This will help lock in your spray tan so it lasts longer. If you use a moisturizer with a tint of color in it then that will help your color last even longer!

Q: How fast will I see results?
This will be different for everyone, depending on your skin type, if you are using a lotion or not, and how frequent you are coming. Most people will see a slight change in their skin tone within the first session. Your skin will become darker within 2-3 sessions.

Q: I’m going on vacation, should I come in to get a base tan?
Yes, getting a base tan will act as a “natural sunscreen”. Here in Vancouver we don’t really get a lot of sun, so if you’re going to a tropical destination with white skin you have a high risk of burning even with the use of sunscreen. Getting a base tan will help prepare your skin, and it will help against burning. Having a base tan and using a SPF will drastically lower your risk of getting a sunburn on your vacation.
